Research Data Management

What Is a DMP

A Data Management Plan (DMP) is a written, living document created at the proposal stage of a research project to describe how you will collect, manage, describe, preserve, and share your research data.

A typical DMP consists of the following eight components, which are answered to help in the development of a DMP

  1. Administrative Information, ie, Research Project description, DMP, etc
  2. Data Collection
  3. Documentation and Metadata
  4. Ethics and Legal Compliance
  5. Storage, Backup, and Security
  6. Selection and preservation
  7. Data sharing
  8. Responsibilities and Resources

Different funders and publishers may have different requirements for DMP. If your funder or publisher requires a DMP, you must be aware of their requirements and comply accordingly

The UFH RDM policy mandates the long-term management (secure storage, archiving, and sharing) of research data associated with any research project formally associated with UFH. The datasets need to be accompanied by a DMP. A useful  DMP template has been created by the RSDS team to help researchers build their own data management plans.
